The Aoyama Building: A Story of Growth, Transformation, and Smallness in the Heart of Tokyo.
This three-story building sits like a thoughtful pause between the city and the adjacent Aoba Park, where the windows do more than just frame views. Rooted in the Japanese concept of 借景 (shakkei), or "borrowed scenery," these diverse-scale windows act as curated canvases, drawing the park's greenery and the vastness of the sky into the interior spaces. The light entering through these frames choreographs an ever-changing dance of shadows and reflections, celebrating the ephemerality of life—the beauty found in fleeting moments that linger in memory.
Wrapped in yaki-sugi, the traditional Japanese technique of charring wood, the building wears its transformation with pride. The burnt wood façade is more than an aesthetic choice; it is a metaphor, drawn from the Turkish idiom from Rumi, a poet who holds a significant place in Turkish culture,, "I was raw, I became cooked, I was burnt." This façade serves as a reminder to the building's users and members of their own unique journeys—each person shaped by their experiences, backgrounds, and transformations. The tree, once part of the living park, now stands in a different form, embodying resilience and continuity, reflecting the growth and evolution of those who interact with the space.

Each floor of the Aoyama Building unfolds with intention and purpose:

- 1st Floor: Green Lit Café, a plant-based café that embodies the harmony of nature and health within urban life. This space serves as a green sanctuary, reconnecting city dwellers with the essence of natural living through mindful cuisine.
- 2nd Floor: A vibrant lounge and gathering hub for the co-working company Midori.so. It fosters creativity, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, becoming a dynamic meeting point for diverse minds.
- 3rd Floor: An open terrace that offers a breath of fresh air amidst the city's density. Here, members can organize open-air activities, cultivating community and connection under the expansive Tokyo sky.
